Mother Nature seems to have a great sense of humor. Often enough, just when we have time to go fishing the wind shifts, making conditions less than ideal. Seasoned fishermen, and even up and coming fishermen, seem to revert back to the old “fish” tale…

Wind from the West, Fish bite the best

Wind from the east, Fish bite the least

Wind from the north, do not go forth

Wind from the south blows bait in their mouth

Luckily, technology is catching up with Mother Nature, and dare I say it, outsmarting her. This is in no small part due to the expertise of the experienced angler.

Be The Fish

Before one deciphers how to find the fish, it is important to understand the food chain. The first thing one must know is how light conditions in the water effect fishing. When the sun is out and the water is crystal clear, there is an abundance of phytoplankton in deep water. Phytoplankton attracts zooplankton. Why? Because zooplankton feed on phytoplankton. This is important because baitfish feed on zooplankton. Of equal importance, baitfish are what every lure in the tackle box are attempting to mimic. When the fish you want to catch are deeper, it’s important to keep this in mind.

When the wind rises, the sun cannot penetrate the choppier water. This means phytoplankton and the rest of the food chain rise to the top of the water. In fact the phytoplankton is further blown by the wind causing it to mass at the shoreline of the wind break. Low light conditions are advantageous for the fish who hunt and for the fishermen who know how to target. Low light makes it easy for fish to hide in shadows, as they can effectively hunt their prey. For fishermen, low light camouflages less-than-perfect lures and convince fish that the shiny lure is actually a fish worth biting into.

Get The Solution

Staying in one spot so you can work an area can be a challenge in windy weather. Yet smart fishermen know that the right equipment can give them the stealth they need to successfully land their catch. Bass fishermen and other shallow water fishermen gravitate towards the Power-Pole shallow water anchor to help them stay where they want to be, even in windy conditions.

With lengths that range from 4’ to 10’, you can choose the Power-Pole that best suits the areas you fish. It silently deploys thanks to sophisticated hydraulics, and does not disturb the water, the fish, or the lake bottom. Even in windy conditions, the spike at the tip of the anchor keeps you solidly in place.

The Power-Pole Drift Paddle attachment also works beautifully when fishing in deeper water. The easy-to-attach Drift Paddle lets you effortlessly stay in the area you choose so you can work it effectively. It slows your boat down by 50% letting you systematically work the area you choose without disturbing the fish, regardless of wind conditions.

Shallow water anchors are the solution you need to become the master fisherman you want to be. Conquer the wind and anything else Mother Nature sends your way. Doing so will further your ability to land the trophy!

Nothing makes me antsier than to pull up on a honey hole where the fish are going crazy. With each second that ticks by, I know that the fish are getting spooked as I shuffle around on my boat trying to drop anchor or put the trolling motor down and start casting lines. This is a problem that is all too familiar for anglers like me that miss up on great ambush opportunities because they didn’t come prepared.

As a fisherman that is creeping up on the 60-year-old mark, the idea of lifting an anchor up and down all day can be a little daunting. My kids are all working and my fishing buddies can’t find the time in their schedules to take a day off. After talking with some fellow fisherman at the boat ramp, I stumbled across the Power-Pole® shallow water anchor. With this hydraulic anchoring system, I can give my back a break and creep into any fishing spot within seconds.

Drop it. Fish it. Catch it.

The Power-Pole series of shallow water anchors is a great addition to any boat for a number of reasons. Personally, I find this piece of equipment essential because it allows me to fish more efficiently. Perhaps the biggest obstacle that bass and shallow water fishermen must face are environmental elements. More specifically, wind and strong currents can push boats off of spots swarming with active fish. The Power-Pole allows me to get situated and really work over every possible surface area without constantly having to operate the trolling motor. With the Power Pole, I can land a fish, cull it, retie my tackle and get back to fishing without getting blown a hundred yards off of my favorite spot. Now that I have gotten a taste of fishing with Power Pole, I can’t imagine ever going back to anchors and trolling motors.

Every bass fisherman worth his salt keeps his eye on the Bassmaster tournaments. For most of us, it’s a dream to be able to reel them in like Kevin VanDam, Chris Lane or Brent Chapman. While most bass fishermen will never enter a Bassmaster tour, there is much to be learned from it.

The Bassmaster Classic is the biggest tournament of the year. It kicks off the season in February with an exciting competition between the best fishermen in the country as they compete for a top prize of $500,000. In order to compete in this tournament, fishermen need to have qualified as previous year’s champions from the Bassmaster Elite Series, Opens Series and Federation Nation Series, as well as the College Champion, the returning Classic Champion and those selected from the Angler of the Year Points Rank.

Inspiration Comes From the Bassmaster Tour

Bassmaster Classic is the yearly tournament of tournaments. Known as the Super Bowl of bass fishing, it inspires fishermen around the country. There are many who dream of one day being good enough to qualify for it. There are many others who watch it simply to see what the pros are doing so they can become better fishermen by learning from them. With tournaments practically all year long there is always one to follow.

Tools of the Bassmaster Tour

Take a close look at the guys out there competing in the Bassmaster tour. Many of them are fishing in boats with pretty much the same equipment. That’s because they have tried different gear and they know exactly what helps them be the best bass fisherman they can be. When they find something that gives them an advantage, they seize it and stick with it until something better comes along.

One of the best additions to any boat is one you find on practically every BassMaster champion’s boat – the Power-Pole® shallow water anchor. This hydraulic anchor is the tool that stops your boat at the precise spot, so you catch more. It holds you right where you want to be even if there’s wind or currents working against you. It is easy to use with remote control, foot switch and even Smartphone control technology, and gives you the kind of fishing advantage that the champions know is essential.

Get a tool worthy of the Bassmaster – the Power-Pole shallow water anchor today!

For any serious redfish fisherman, the Redfish Tour is the place to be. If you have been dreaming of competing with the big boys for serious prizes, this is the place to do it.

Hosted by the Inshore Fishing Association, this is the longest running redfish tournament in the country. Many of the sport fishermen who take part in this tournament love the fact that the entry fee is affordable, the prizes are great and the tournament is a one-day event. This makes it an easy choice for the fisherman who is looking to break into tournament fishing or the seasoned tournament fisherman.

The Tour Itself

The Redfish Tour changes up every year, with different locations to keep things fresh, and of course, based on interest by the anglers in a given area. Every good redfish angler keeps a close watch on where the upcoming tour locations will be. The 2013 tour looks like this:

Placida, FL – March 16/17 (Florida West Coast Division)

Port Aransas, TX – April 13/14 (Texas Division)

Jacksonville, FL – April 27/28 (Florida East Coast Division)

Empire, LA – May 18/19 (Louisiana Division)

Charleston, SC – June 8/9 (Atlantic Division)

Titusville, FL – June 29/30 (Florida East Coast Division)

Savannah, GA – August 3/4 (Atlantic Division)

Grand Isle, LA – August 24/25 (Louisiana Division)

Aransas Pass, TX – September 7/8 (Texas Division)

Ruskin, FL – September 14/15 (Florida West Coast Division)

Houma, LA Oct 24/25 Championship 2013

The Tools for the Redfish Tour

When it comes to playing with the big boys, it makes sense to have the same kind of quality equipment that they use. Many of the sponsors of the IFA are top names in fishing gear that you will see in use during the Redfish Tour. One of my favorites is Power-Pole shallow water anchors. These high-tech anchors can be found in most of the best fishermen’s boats in this tournament, because there is nothing better for quickly and accurately stopping your boat in that perfect spot. Get it and step up your redfish fishing.

See how you measure up to the big boys by joining the Redfish Tour this year!
